What was the goal when designing ELCAPITANO?

ElCapitano was designed with a focus on speed, glide, and predictability, with a bonus of easy breaching of the wingtip in those tight turns. We’ve taken a lot of shape aspects that make our FlightAttendant series so good and adapted those to the higher aspect series. So you get a huge speed range, predictability, stability and wingtip breachability, in a high performance package.

What are the advantages of a high aspect foil?

The advantage is that because they have less drag, you’ll glide much further and longer. Also because the chord is much shorter, it is way easier and more efficient in pumping. 

Who are these foils for?

There’s a size for really every foiling discipline. Although they’re high-performance foils, they are not hard to ride, I would say anyone that’s past the beginner stage and is comfortable in the basic manoeuvres will benefit hugely and can take their foiling to the next level.

Drawing inspiration from the success of the mid aspect ratio Flight Attendant wings, the ElCapitano wings integrate some of its most impactful design elements into a higher aspect ratio lineup. Crafted for both intermediate and advanced riders, the ElCapitano series embodies high performance and shredability.

Exceptional lift-drag ratio

The outline shape and wing twist maximize lift in the center of the wing, gaining efficiency from its tapered lift distribution. This delivers an exceptional lift-to-drag ratio each wing size. These key features, coupled with the new section profile, also allow the wings to operate at a wide range of speeds and maintain a low stalling speed. Giving these higher aspect wings the best speed and glide for the surface area.

No ventilation

Reduced wingtip loading allows the wingtips to cut through the water surface without ventilating the rest of the wing. As aggressive wing-out turns are an exhilarating part of any foiler’s progression and predictability in these critical turns is paramount, we focused strongly on key design features to ensure the best and smoothest wing-out turns. Many of these elements have been inspired by the Flight Attendant’s success and optimized into a higher aspect ratio design:

Redesigned middle section

The new section is precision-designed to disperse pressure along both upper and lower surfaces of the wing, eliminating the concentration of suction pathways that can disrupt lift.

Curved up wingtips

When a wingtip encounters the water surface, the angle at which they meet is critical to the likelihood/severity of ventilation. Curved up wingtips facilitate a steeper wing-surface angle upon contact with the water, significantly reducing the risk of ventilation – whether you’re pushing the limits or inadvertently breaching a wingtip.
